A free gift with purchase,
free only while the cart qualifies
Set a spend or quantity threshold, or pick products, collections or tags. Give one gift or let the shopper choose. The gift is added to the cart and discounted by a Shopify Function, so it can’t stay free if the cart drops below the rule.
Three steps
Install, turn on the embed, make a campaign. Campaigns are saved as drafts until you turn them on.
Make a campaign
Choose the rule: cart spend or number of items, for the whole cart or only some products, collections or tags. Add up to three tiers, each with its own gift. Set dates and countries if you need them.
Choose the gift
One gift is added to the cart automatically. Several gifts show a picker, and sold-out ones are hidden. You can turn automatic adding off and show an “Add your free gift” button instead.
Turn on the embed
Switch on the app embed in the theme editor. It adds and removes the gift as the cart changes and shows a progress bar. Add the progress block to the cart page, or use the small floating bar.
What shoppers see
A progress message such as “Spend $20.00 more to unlock your free gift”, then the gift in the cart marked Free. If they remove an item and the cart no longer qualifies, the gift leaves the cart and the discount stops.
Good to know
- The discount is the guard. Shopify re-checks the rule at checkout. If a gift ever isn’t discounted, the storefront script takes it out of the cart so a shopper never pays for it.
- Express checkout. Shop Pay and Apple Pay buttons can skip the cart page, so the gift has to be in the cart already.
- Themes. The embed uses the standard cart endpoints. Some custom cart drawers don’t refresh on their own; reload the cart or write to us with the theme name.
- Spend counts before discounts. Gifts, gift cards and subscription items never count toward a threshold. One unit of each gift is free.

Spend or quantity rules
A threshold on cart spend or on the number of items, for everything or for chosen products, collections or tags.
Up to three tiers
Spend $50 for a tote, $100 for a hat as well. Give only the highest unlocked gift, or every unlocked one.
One gift or a choice
A fixed gift is added for the shopper. A choose-your-gift picker lets them pick one, and hides what is sold out.
Free only while it qualifies
A Shopify Function discounts the gift 100% only while the rule holds, and only one unit. Remove items and the gift stops being free.
Dates, countries and stock
Run a campaign between two dates, in some countries only. Warnings in the campaign list when a gift is sold out, inactive or deleted.
A flat price
$12.99 a month for unlimited campaigns and orders. It doesn’t change with revenue or order volume.

Questions
Do I need Shopify Plus?
No. The gift is discounted by a Shopify Function, which works on every Shopify plan.
What if the cart drops below the threshold?
Shopify stops discounting the gift and the storefront script removes it. If the script can’t run, the discount still stops, so the gift is never free by accident.
Can shoppers get the gift without qualifying?
The discount only applies to a gift line that the campaign marked and whose variant it lists, and only while the rule holds. A shopper who adds the same product normally pays full price.
How many tiers and gifts?
Up to three tiers per campaign and up to ten gifts per tier. With more than one gift in a tier, shoppers choose.
Does it work with other discounts?
By default the gift discount can combine with other product and order discounts. You can turn that off in Settings.
Do I need a theme developer?
Usually no. Turn on the app embed in the theme editor. Adding the progress block to the cart page is optional.
Does the price go up as the store grows?
No. It is $12.99 a month with unlimited campaigns and orders.
What happens when I cancel?
Cancel in Settings or uninstall. The gift discount is taken down, so gifts stop being free. After an uninstall Shopify sends a shop/redact request, and we delete the store’s campaigns and settings.
